Libya

WHEN TO TRAVEL?
Libya enjoys a sunny Mediterranean climate around the coastal strips of Tripoli, the Nafusa Mountains and the Akhdar Mountains, making them pleasant to visit during most of the year. However, some very cold days can occur in winter with occasional snow in the mountains. Hot summers are tempered by sea breezes and sites are usually less busy with other visitors. In the desert the summer temperatures can soar and in the winter drop to below freezing. Spring is a good time to visit when trees and flowers are in blossom whilst temperatures in autumn are equally comfortable.
Over thousands of years Libya has borne witness to many different cultures, from the Phoenicians and Greeks to the Romans and Arabs, all leaving their distinct footprint on the land. Exhibiting a wealth of classical sites, indigenous architecture and magnificent desert scenery this diverse country, once a stranger to tourism, is just waiting to be explored.
